Languages

The Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Mechanics (UFR MIM) offers both English and German classes.

Objectives

Language classes at the Faculty provide students with the means to be autonomous (and confident) when they have to speak in their foreign language of choice. In that respect, language teachers encourage regular use of the language, with practices based on everyday situations as well as professional conversations.

Learning goal: Level B2/C1 on the CEFR (Common European Framework)

Organization and Curriculum

At the beginning of the year, students are sorted into groups according to their proficiency. This allows the professor to build on students’ strengths and to remedy their issues. However, there is no group dedicated to beginners.

All groups take the same tests and the same end-of-term exams.

Each week’s class will include sections devoted to public speaking, professional writing (such as scientific papers), efficient reading and proficient listening. In parallel, students will be encouraged to interact as much as possible (e.g. by giving opinions or by reacting to different media).

Classes take place in regular classrooms, computer labs or language labs.
